If I’ve ever mentioned this over the years, people have looked aghast and told me I must be doing it wrong. Have I tried a fancy brand of bath oil? Is the water hot enough? Have I got a good novel? What about a candle? What about drinking a glass of prosecco while in there? Have I tried a lovely, gleaming hotel bath instead of that old, falling-apart thing in my flat?It would be nice if I did enjoy baths.
It all started in 2019 when I dated someone who didn’t have a functioning shower. Like some weary Victorian, the only option available in the morning was to soak in their tub. At first, I was appalled at this self-indulgence but then, after a few morning baths, I quickly realised how wrong my life had been up until that point.
Now I love baths so much that I have one almost every day. My favourite thing is just sitting in the warmth with my eyes closed, half asleep, like I’m soaking in one of those floating zen eggs.
