Coronation Street fans have decided they want Stephen Reid replaced after a lesser-used character returned to the street. During Wednesday night's trip to the cobbles , viewers saw Billy Mayhew and Paul Foreman reminiscing over their double wedding day.
But as the celebrations got underway, there was a surprise for Billy - and viewers - as the archdeacon got the church wedding he didn't think he could have thanks to a bit of planning by Paul. Corrie fans may have spotted Paul being slipped some keys by Chesney Brown amid the speeches and cake-cutting and soon, Billy was left shocked to discover his new husband has been keeping a secret from him as they headed outside for a breather.
He agreed and soon in the church, Bernie, Gemma, Todd Grimshaw and Dee-Dee Bailey watched as Billy and Paul exchanged vows while Summer Spellman proudly snapped away with her Polaroid camera. The group then headed back to the Bistro where they re-joined their guests to continue celebrating their marriage and having their first time.
However, he later told Billy that the church warden has posted on social media asking for the congregation’s opinion. Billy and Paul read through the online comments and were appalled to see a torrent of homophobic abuse. Incensed by what he was reading, Billy gave a radio interview and spoke passionately about his faith, how he’s sorry if he’s upset some members of the church, but he’ll never be sorry for marrying the man he loves.
