The woman claims in court papers she was sexually harassed while working at the Bergen County Jail.
A Morris County woman claims she was suspended, then fired from her job at the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack after she alleged inappropriate conduct from other officers.A former corrections officer filed a lawsuit last week against the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office in Hackensack claiming she was sexually harassed by colleagues for years and supervisors ignored her complaints.
After reporting the alleged incident, the woman claims she was retaliated against, denied an opportunity to receive the same training provided to the men who worked with her, and routinely subjected to “inappropriate comments, conduct and harassment.”Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton said through a spokeswoman Monday that he does not comment on pending litigation. Derek Sands, spokesman for Bergen County, said the county does not comment on personnel matters.
But after the man allegedly made comments about her buttocks, hugged and tried to kiss her, the woman made another complaint, the lawsuit says.and the sheriff’s office issued a no-contact order prohibiting the man from interacting with the plaintiff, the lawsuit says. In 2020, the woman says she was admonished for contacting the medical department to treat an inmate’s bleeding hand before the inmate had been photographed or fingerprinted.
The sheriff’s office suspended the woman without pay for 90 days as a result of the disciplinary charges, the lawsuit says.
