Cops were deployed in Bonnyrigg in the hunt for Sean 'Lugs' McGovern, who absconded from Castle Huntly last weekend

A police helicopter carried out searches above a Scots town last night in the hunt for a notorious drugs baron who fled an open prison. Sean 'Lugs' McGovern, 39, absconded from HMP Castle Huntly, near Dundee, and was reported missing from the jail at around 10pm last Sunday.

A police helicopter was seen in the sky overhead at around 4.30pm and was circling the area into the evening. Police said they were attending an “ongoing police investigation”. It has now emerged the helicopter and officers were hunting for McGovern, who is from Edinburgh. “Sean was reported missing to police around 10pm on Sunday, June 11. The most recent information provided to police is that he may have travelled to the Edinburgh or Lothian area.

“When he absconded he was wearing a dark-coloured woollen hat and a dark-coloured long sleeved top, with light-coloured trousers and trainers. Officers are again advising members of the public not to approach him if they see him but to contact police.”
