It’s being funded with $4.25 million from the City of Saskatoon; city council approved the spending in 2020 as part of doling out $35.5 million inPhase one is expected to be complete in the spring of 2023. Future phases will be built subject to working out funding. The municipalities involved are still ironing out details on who will pay for what, and how the new facility will be managed.
The new facility will be a big upgrade on what Saskatoon’s fire department currently has to work with. Hackl said they can train about 50 people at a time, at most, with 30 in their lone classroom space, and another 20 doing hands-on work at a training tower behind one of the city’s fire halls.Article content
