Instead, your paper parroted Democrats’ social media talking points. Lest we forget, efforts to defund the police began a few years ago with a goal of stopping law enforcement from fulfilling its primary purpose — i.e., enforcing the law. Such efforts, where “successful,” led to increased crime and chaos in multiple American cities.
Congress, however, has a duty to hold the executive branch accountable when the latter fails to faithfully execute federal laws. In “Federalist No. 58,” James Madison describes Congress’ power of the purse as “the most complete and effectual weapon with which any constitution can arm the immediate representatives of the people, for obtaining a redress of every grievance[.]” My colleagues and I made it clear that our intent was to use that power to force change and uphold the rule of law.
TWC also disputed our contention that many employers found in violation of the Texas Payday Law received “nothing more than a warning.” We based this conclusion on their coding, which reads: “Violation of Payday Law – Penalty Warning.”order payment of back wages in these cases, without tacking on a financial penalty for first-time violators. We re-reviewed the data. TWC is correct. However, 78.3% of wages in “penalty warning” cases remain unpaid.
