Congress is poised to ban TikTok on government devices, a sign of increasing skepticism of and opposition to the social media platform because of its ties to China.

A measure preventing the app from being installed on federal devices was included in a draft released late Monday of a $1.7 trillion must-pass government funding bill that is set to be cleared by both chambers and signed by President Joe Biden in the coming days. The Senate already passed the TikTok ban last week with unanimous approval.

The government ban arrives after Sen. Marco Rubio introduced legislation to ban TikTok from the United States and as the White House negotiates with the Chinese social media company to assuage national security concerns. Legislators have also said they fear that the app has too much influence over teenagers and children. The legislation would approve $858 billion in defense spending and $772 billion in nondefense discretionary spending, both up over last year's levels.

The Senate will be the first to consider the omnibus legislation, with a time agreement required to speed up the vote. It's unclear if any Republicans will move to block the legislation.
