A Caltrain struck and killed a person near the Hillsdale station in San Mateo, the agency announced Tuesday.
SAN MATEO — A Caltrain struck and killed a person here Tuesday afternoon, and authorities were investigating why the victim was on the train tracks.
The collision occurred a little before 2 p.m. Tuesday, near the Hillsdale Station in San Mateo. The train was traveling north when it struck “an individual who was trespassing on the tracks,” a Caltrain spokesman said in a news release.The identity of the victim, as well as their gender, age, and city of residence, were not immediately released.
It was the second train fatality of 2022 for Caltrain, which operates in the South Bay and San Francisco.
