As Cuyahoga County officials continue to debate over where to place a new jail, what it should look like and how much it should cost, a one-year-old community survey shows the greater public may be just as divided.

The project’s consultant, Jeff Appelbaum, and other planners posted a video presentation describing the then-over two years of background information that the 12-member Justice Center Executive Steering Committee has been using to inform their decisions about what kind of jail to build and where to put it.
Only 26% of respondents said they’d attended or viewed one of the public steering committee meetings, which are streamed live and“This created a unique challenge,” Appelbaum said, when presenting the survey results to the committee weeks later, because many of the questions and comments they received, “involved subject matter that has been exhaustively covered in our public steering committee meetings.
