The chosen definition for “credentials of value” will dramatically impact how colleges educate students across Texas. For example, an emerging in-demand skill could take years to make it on the state’s credentials of value list. Additionally, some credentials that are in high demand with a college’s local employers, but not statewide, might not make the list. Both scenarios would fail to reward colleges that respond quickly to local industry needs and shifts in the job market.
