Can anyone recall a less experienced wide receiver corps in the NFL? The Packers played five wideouts in the game — including three rookies. TheRomeo Doubs and Samori Toure combined for 641 snaps and 47 receptions as rookies last season. That position group should have looked overmatched. Packers quarterback Jordan Love tries to escape the rush of Bears defensive end DeMarcus Walker on Sunday at Soldier Field.
It has the looks of being a seasonlong issue. The Bears brought pressure on 20% of Love’s drop-backs in Week 1. It wasn’t nearly effective enough. Eberflus is from the Cover-2 coaching tree, which is a system that prefers to rush four and play seven in coverage. Eberflus isn’t opposed to blitzing — he likes to pick and choose his matchups and spots — but he would be straying from core beliefs if the Bears all of a sudden started pressuring like Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles likes to.
