Columbus will hold a public hearing Tuesday to go over proposed changes to the affordable housing rules dealing with developer tax abatements.
Major changes being proposed by Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther's administration to how affordable housing is created in return forare on track for possible approval by City Council in less than three weeks.
For example, the city currently requires any affordable housing units in an abated new development to be"dispersed throughout the development." But another provision allows the affordable units to be"located in different physical units over time.
Stevens said other clarifications deal with"fees-in-lieu" payments, or so-called"buy outs," which developers can make to the city rather than provide affordable units in a project, and what happens to tax abatements in various situations when those payments are involved, particularly when units are resold.
The public hearing on the proposed changes will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall in the second-floor council [email protected]
