Colorado breweries nabbed 15 medals at the recent U.S. Open Beer Championship, according to an announcement Monday.
Judges for the competition, which took place in Oxford, Ohio, evaluated more than 9,000 beers representing 150 styles. That pool included several homebrews that garnered gold at last year’s National Homebrew Competition, hosted by the American Homebrewers Association. Colorado-made brews landed one gold medal, seven silver and seven bronze. Lafayette’s Liquid Mechanics Brewing Co. was the biggest local winner with three medals, followed by Bootstrap Brewing Co., Bent Barley Brewing Co. and Beyond the Mountain Brewing Co., each with two.
The Centennial State dominated the Imperial Red Ale category, with Bootstrap’s Wreak Havoc taking gold and Raices Brewing Co.’s Furia taking silver.to see the full list of medal-winning beers.
