Cason Senfield, 19, of Orchard Park, New York, was shot by the driver, who told police he believed he was in danger.
the teen has been identified as Carson Senfield of Orchard Park, New York, a suburb of Buffalo. Senfield was a student at the University of Tampa.
A news release from the police department says the shooting occurred during the early-morning hours on Saturday. Senfield reportedly was hanging out with friends earlier in the evening and had taken an Uber back to his residence. After getting out of the Uber, Senfield tried to get into a parked vehicle nearby that didn’t belong to him and was occupied by another male. The driver shot Senfield in the upper body, telling police he feared for his life because he did not know who Senfield was or why he was trying to get into his vehicle.
Senfield was pronounced dead at the scene, police say. The shooter remained at the scene and cooperated with with detectives. The department did not release additional details and said any potential charges would be decided by the Florida State Attorney’s Office. Senfield was a 2021 graduate of Orchard Park High School and has two siblings that currently attend the school, Fox 13 reports. He was studying finance at the University of Tampa,
