The UKHSA says the level 3 alert is now in place until 9am on Thursday, March 16, with a '90% chance of severe cold weather/icy conditions/heavy snow'
A cold weather alert issued by the UK Health Security Agency and the Met Office has been extended across Lancashire and Cumbria with a '90% chance' of more 'heavy snow'.
"Tuesday will see cold conditions with hail, sleet and snow showers, and another cold night will follow. On Wednesday milder air will spread in from the Atlantic again, with a brief spell of snow on its leading edge turning quickly to rain." It comes as a Met Office yellow warning for snow and ice remains in place across the region until 10am today . Forecasters say rain, sleet and snow followed by ice is 'likely to cause some impacts to travel'.
