The 74-year-old man went missing in the Raritan Bay off Keyport on Monday evening.

The kayak and personal belongings of 74-year-old Zhenjiang Ding were found near Cedar Street Park in Keyport Harbor at about 6:30 p.m., the Coast Guard said in a statement. Keyport police said the discovery was made near Walnut Street and that the kayaker had been fishing.

Coast Guard officials said Tuesday night that they had searched nearly 129 square nautical miles for over 37 hours, with no signs of Ding. “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr. Zhenjiang Ding,” Capt. Jonathan Andrechik, Deputy Commander of Coast Guard Sector New York, said in a statement. “Making the decision to suspend a search is always difficult. We are appreciative of the efforts of all agencies who participated in this search.”

It was not immediately clear if any other agencies would continue their search for Ding, who is described as 5-foot-6-inches tall and approximately 140 to 160 pounds. The New Jersey State Police, the New York Police Department and the New York Fire Department previously joined the Coast Guard in its search.
