Adam Chaloupka, an attorney for the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association that represents CMHA police supervisors, said Drew was not involved in Sheldon’s initial firing. Shelton on Sept. 18, 2020, filed a workplace race harassment complaint, naming several officers, including Drew. The complaint included instances when white officers told him he “didn’t know his place” and incidents where he was disciplined for conduct in which white officers weren’t punished.
Gonzalez previously had known about Shelton’s music and had once asked him to perform at a CMHA function, though Shelton declined. Gonzalez never told him to stop rapping, according to the lawsuit.
