The LA Clippers have a new starting lineup
that the LA Clippers are expected to start Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and Ivica Zubac together when Harden makes his debut vs. the New York Knicks on Monday. This was always the likeliest starting five with Harden in the mix, and while Ty Lue would not officially confirm this lineup when asked on Sunday, this is what he is expected to start with.
Before the Clippers traded for Harden, their plan was to start Terance Mann alongside Westbrook, George, Leonard, and Zubac. This lineup never saw the floor, as Mann injured his ankle and has still yet to play this season, but the team preparing to slide Leonard and George up one spot in the starting lineup indicated they would also do so if a Harden trade went down.
Now that Harden is in the mix, it seems the Clippers are indeed comfortable having their two star wings play up a position, which allows both Westbrook and Harden to start in the backcourt. Both Leonard and George are great rebounders and can guard 1-4, so it makes sense for the Clippers to at least give this starting five a look. The bench minutes will be interesting for Ty Lue and the Clippers, but once Mann returns from injury those should be more easily managed.
