Now 19, South Korean pianist Yunchan Lim will play Schumann's Piano Concerto to open the 2023-24 Fort Worth Symphony's season.
critic Zachary Woolfe hailed “the juxtaposition of precise clarity and expansive reverie; the vivid scenes and bursts of wit; the sense of contrasting yet organically developing moods; the endless and persuasive bendings of time.”’s Jessica Duchen wrote, “His personal sound is beyond gorgeous; it’s pure, lyrical, almost vocal, while his control of clarity, texture and balance couldn’t be faulted even if one wished to try.
Alongside his concert career, though, Lim is continuing his piano study this fall at the New England Conservatory in Boston. But he’ll keep the same teacher he’s had since age 13, Minsoo Sohn, who has joined the NEC faculty.Advertisement “The core of the Cliburn’s mission is supporting our young winners — with a deep respect for who they are and who they strive to be as artists,” says Maggie Estes, the Cliburn’s director of communications and digital content. For now, she says, “Yunchan is committed to communicating primarily through his music.”, on Lim and the 2022 Cliburn Competition.
