Most of Starfield’s aliens are pretty boring, but a handful of them keep space exploration interesting. Hopefully, there’s more to be discovered.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT There's a personality problem among Starfield's aliens, but a few of them try to make up the deficit. As a matter of fact, much of the game suffers from a pervasive sense of blandness. Starfield's cities are pret barren, its space exploration somewhat pointless, and its NPCs just a little bit dead around the eyes.

The little alien dance troupe suggests that this species has either unique, biologically-ingrained behaviors, or some kind of artistic culture. Im_Actually_An_Alien notes that this occurred when they first arrived on the planet Oborum, as if the aliens sought out the encounter. They interpret this interaction as a "welcome dance," and it's certainly possible that the aliens merely intended to give the player character a warm greeting.

No, what's important is that this detail was included in the first place. These aliens actually have unique characteristics that set them apart from all other species. Whether it's a glitch or an intentional detail, one of the aliens in the video is visibly smaller than the others, and begins the dance slightly off-tempo before eventually correcting course to sync up with the others.

It's not the worst thing in the world to have a vaguely implied system of alien classification. That not only makes exploration more intuitive, giving players the opportunity to compare and contrast distinct types of similar species, it's also just sensible and efficient game design. But to have such limited sources of inspiration makes meeting new life forms repetitive. It ensures that after a while, each new alien species will be met with an uncaring shrug, not a wide-eyed gasp.
