Both Caney Creek and Cleveland came in looking for its first District 13-6A win.

But a little bit of history was up for grabs Wednesday night when the District 13-6A teams met.
Cleveland was anxious from the start and the set tone quickly. It was a 9-0 run over the first three minutes, the defense was flying around and established a commanding lead. Caney Creek battled all the way back to single digits in the fourth quarter before Cleveland moved on to a 63-51 victory. Cleveland is 6-0 all-time against Caney Creek after going 4-0 the past two seasons when the teams were in a Class 5A district together.“That’s been our bump in the road all year is just the ‘E’s’,” Caney Creek coach Aundre Branch said. “The effort, the energy, the efficiency, the execution – I teach that every day. We’ve got to at least get three of those. They had the energy, the execution and the effort was there.
“The past five games have been slipaways,” Branch said. “To be honest, if you take away the little bit of things we do to ourselves - turnovers, not playing within our system, and stuff like that – every game has been close. It’s been like this. It’s just us.”
