Al Shabab attack on hotel in Somalia's capital Mogadishu leaves eight civilians dead, a security official says, as Somali forces continue to battle terrorists holed up inside the building
Gunfire could still be heard in the hotel early Saturday as Somali security forces tried to contain the last gunmen, who were thought to be holed up in the building.
Fighters from the Al Qaeda-linked Al Shabab group stormed the popular Hayat Hotel on Friday evening in a hail of gunfire and bomb blasts. It is the biggest attack in Mogadishu since Somalia's new president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, was elected in May after many months of political instability.
