Civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis disclosed that he has advanced pancreatic cancer, but vowed to continue in office while he fights the disease
The cancer was discovered during a routine medical visit and confirmed by follow-up tests, Mr. Lewis saidWASHINGTON—John Lewis, the civil rights icon and Democratic congressman from Georgia, disclosed Sunday that he has advanced pancreatic cancer but vowed to continue in office while he fights the disease.
“I have been in some kind of fight—for freedom, equality, basic human rights—for nearly my entire life,” Mr. Lewis said. “I have never faced a fight quite like the one I have now.”
