The City of Dallas was in the spirit of celebration Wednesday as it marked its logo’s 50th anniversary.
Although just a “D” to the average eye, the logo has symbolic qualities that the city wanted to convey in subtle ways.
Taking out the time to give a brief history lesson, the City of Dallas said the logo was first introduced in their 1972-73 annual budget presentation on Aug. 10, 1972. From the perspective of a graphic designer, the blue capital “D” with a green stylized tree is to appear “simple, uncluttered and modern.” According to the City of Dallas, the tree represents the quality of living in Dallas and to bring about feelings of “greenery, growth and concern for the environment.”
