Jurian Dixon, Saints dunks way to Open Division championship; wrestler helps Brawley High School make history
It took overtime, but the junior scored a 3-1 victory in sudden death to capture the state 195-pound division at Merchants Bank Arena in Bakersfield. It was Brawley’s first boys state wrestling title.Only a freshman, Davis showed a lot of grit to grab the third place bronze medal at 137 pounds in the state championships in Bakersfield. She pinned her opponent in 2:44 to make the victory stand.
Tthe senior found the back of the net for a 1-0 victory over La Costa Canyon in the Open Division championship game. It was the fifth title for the Wolverines.With 17 points — 12 on slam dunks — the senior helped the Saints defend their Open Division championship with an 85-53 triumph over Montgomery. It was the first time a team has defended its Open title.
