. Someone’s absence is gaping and visible, and, in the first three years or so, it’s still very hard to even believe they aren’t there. What’s worse is that others, not in grief, tend to forget that it is impossible to be happy when you are deeply, deeply sad.
I work with many bereaved patients, but I believe in no such thing as a grief expert. The only qualification for understanding its unique agony is to have been through it yourself. Even as an experienced clinician, before I knew it personally, I had no real idea how horrendous and overwhelming it truly is.
is laced with aspects of both your personalities, conscious and unconscious, innate and environmentally acquired. Put another way, it is impossible toexplain why you love your baby, your wife, your dad. You just do. This is what makes grief so incomprehensible.
