Christa Williams, hugging teammmate Dot Richardson after the US defeated Japan 2-1 in 8 innings to win the gold medal in Sydney, was nominated for the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.Former Houston-area athletes Christa Williams, Josh Beckett, Andrew Luck, Wilson Whitley, Carlette Guidry, Dave Marr, Jose Cruz and Chris Gilbert and legendary coach Billy Nicks were among nominees selected Tuesday for potential election to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco.
Local athletes on the primary ballot include Williams, the two-time Olympic gold medal-winning softball pitcher from Pasadena Dobie; Beckett, the former major league pitcher from Spring; and Luck, the former NFL quarterback from Stratford.
