Chris Cline, who made a fortune by acquiring high-sulfur coal deposits in the early 2000s when other energy investors were shunning them, died Thursday in what local news reports described as a helicopter crash off Grand Cay island in the Bahamas.
His death was confirmed in a tweet by West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice, who called Mr. Cline a close friend. The entrepreneur, who would have turned 61 today, died along with six others in the crash, according to those reports.
