UPDATE | The child's 25-year-old father faces a preliminary charge of neglect after investigators found he left his gun unattended while going to the bathroom.
Upon arrival, officers located a male child with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. The child's age will need to be confirmed by the coroner's office.
According to IMPD, the incident was reported as possibly self-inflicted and accidental, but that has not been confirmed. Both parents told police they heard a single gunshot and then found the child in the living room covered in blood.
