The Chicago White Sox come up empty late in a 5-2 loss to the Texas Rangers — their 8th defeat in 11 games. lamondpope has more.

The Rangers responded with a pair of two-out runs in the seventh against reliever Aaron Bummer. All five of the runs for the Rangers came with two outs.The Sox loaded the bases with one out in the eighth, but Yasmani Grandal and Jake Burger struck out. They brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth and again came up empty as the team lost for the eighth time in 11 games.

The loss dropped the Sox to 12 games under .500 . But they remained 5 1/2 games out of first in the American League Central after the division-leading Minnesota Twins lost. There are no teams in the division with a winning record. Banks allowed three runs on five hits with three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings in his first big-league start.

Banks became the first lefty to start for the Sox since Dallas Keuchel on May 26, 2022, against Boston.
