The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray is a high performance hybrid version of the sports car that has all-wheel-drive and is the quickest vehicle GM has ever made.
"This is less of a hybrid and more of an electrification of the Corvette," E-Ray engineer Steve Padilla toldThe E-Ray combines the V8 powertrain of the Corvette Stingray that drives the rear wheels with an electric motor mounted up front that turns it into an all-wheel-drive vehicle.There isn’t a plug, The E-Ray is a mild hybrid that charges the 1.9-kilowatt-hour battery pack running down the middle of the car with excess energy recovered from the engine and braking system.
The E-Ray's interior is largely the same as it is in other Corvettes, but adds buttons for engine idle/stop and a Charge+ setting that maximizes the battery pack's charge for track driving. The E-Ray can be set to a Stealth mode that won't turn on the V8 under 45 mph and a Shuttle mode for moving it around in a garage or driveway that allows it to be driven all-electric up to 15 mph without the V8 ever turning on.
