Protesters took to Chelsea Piers on Sunday, furious that the Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, was invited to speak at a private event.
In March, Governor DeSantis signed into law a parental rights bill which prohibits school instructions on sexual orientation and gender identity for younger students. Critics have labeled it an attack on the LGBTQ+ community, calling it a 'Don't Say Gay' hate law.
The event was sponsored by a conservative Jewish group called the Tikvah Fund. DeSantis was the closing speaker on Saturday afternoon.
