This is Charlotte's second time as NXT Women's Champion.

She already faced - and defeated - both RAW Women's Champion Becky Lynch and SmackDown Women's Champion Bayley.
With the challenge thrown, Charlotte continued to refuse to accept or state her intentions until she appeared at NXT Takeover: Portland. After Ripley defeated Bianca Belair, Charlotte attacked the champion and accepted her challenge.
