The Chargers know Indianapolis, with an interim coach and new starting quarterback, will be determined after last week’s historic loss
COSTA MESA — The Indianapolis Colts changed their offensive coordinator, changed their coach, changed their quarterback twice and, most recently, coughed up a 33-point halftime lead en route to a 39-36 loss Sunday to the Minnesota Vikings, the largest lead ever surrendered in NFL history. The Chargers were taking nothing for granted Thursday as they prepared to face the Colts on Monday night in Indianapolis.
The Colts’ changes began with the firing of offensive coordinator Marcus Brady on Nov. 1, after a loss to the Washington Commanders left Indianapolis with a 3-4-1 record. Frank Reich was next to go, replaced as head coach Nov. 7 by former Colts center and ESPN analyst Jeff Saturday. This week, Saturday replaced quarterback Matt Ryan with Nick Foles, who at one point was the Colts’ third-string quarterback behind Ryan and Sam Ehlinger.
In addition to a change at quarterback, the Colts will be without running back Jonathan Taylor, their leading rusher with 861 yards and four touchdowns. Taylor suffered a high-ankle sprain during their loss to the Vikings and was placed on injured reserve earlier this week.
