Big Pokey performs during the birthday celebration for Z-Ro at The House of Blues in Downtown Houston on Sunday, January 19, 2020, were invited to join together to celebrate and remember his life Sunday at Houston City Hall.
Big Pokey, whose given name was Milton Powell, had been a member of Screwed Up Click, an influential group of Houston-based artists led by the late hip-hop artist DJ Screw. His sudden death was a shock not only to his loved ones but to his many fans, as well. As such, organizers of the Sunday night event wanted to give community members an opportunity to mourn and pay their respects to the artist whose work influenced so many.A family-friendly celebration will be held at 6 p.m.
It was important for anyone planning to attend to note a venue change: The remembrance event initially had been planned to be held at Houston’s Yellowstone Park but it had since been moved to City Hall, 901 Bagby St.
