The 'NFL Today' analyst will join Gayle King and Tony Dokoupil on the CBS morning show, as part of an overall deal that will also add a role with Nickelodeon.

“He is a gifted broadcaster, interviewer, storyteller, writer, poet and an exceptionally thoughtful voice in conversations around the social issues of our time which transcend news, sports and entertainment genres,” Khemlani wrote in a memo to staff Wednesday morning.

As for Mason, Khemlani wrote that he “is committed to covering culture – both in terms of how it defines the atmosphere of the country and how culture changes it. He believes fiercely that art and music are integral to our culture, not merely odd indulgences. They frequently define our time in very real ways.
