A lo largo de cinco años, la ciudad estadounidense más grande de la frontera sur ha desarrollado un sistema muy eficiente para darle acogida a los solicitantes de asilo.

Ese sistema está siendo puesto a prueba como nunca antes, ya que la Oficina de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza está dejando a los migrantes libres en las calles de la segunda ciudad más grande de California porque los albergues están llenos. Desde el 13 de septiembre, alrededor de 13.

“Es un breve momento de ayuda antes de que puedan reunirse con sus seres queridos”, afirmó Kate Clark, directora sénior de servicios para inmigrantes del Jewish Family Service de San Diego. Los albergues siguen acogiendo a familias con niños pequeños, miembros de la comunidad LGBTQ+, ancianos y personas con problemas médicos. Las liberaciones en centros de transporte intermodal son en su mayoría para adultos solteros.
