“Public service is a sacred trust,” Casey said in a statement. “The specific allegations set forth in the federal indictment indicate to me that Senator Menendez violated that trust repeatedly.” Casey said that although Menendez, a fellow Democrat, has a presumption of innocence, “serving in public office is a privilege that demands a higher standard of conduct. Senator Menendez should resign.”, claiming that the nearly $500,000 in cash authorities found hidden in his house was for unexpected emergencies, the Associated Press reported., is accused of taking cash and gold in exchange for helping Egypt and New Jersey business associates.
