Gorgi Talevski’s treatment at the Valparaiso Care and Rehabilitation Center has morphed into a legal case that has made its way through the federal court system and now is scheduled for oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday.

His treatment at the Valparaiso facility, which is owned by Health and Hospital Corporation and in turn Marion County, and his transfer to Bremen started as a family’s battle to care for their patriarch, who they said was being chemically restrained without consent at the care facility not far from their Valparaiso home.It has morphed into much more, as a case that made its way through the federal court system and now is scheduled for oral arguments Tuesday before the U.S.

“Basically it says you have rights. You have protections,” she said. “In Indiana, these mean nothing.” Sign outside a Valparaiso, Indiana nursing home owned by HHC - a Marion County-owned company that owns nursing homes across the state. A suit filed by attorney Susie Talevski against HHC over her father's care is scheduled to be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court on Nov. 8.

Decisions on those rights would be determined by an administrative law judge instead of federal legal precedent, as is the case now. A suit filed by Talevski’s daughter, Susie Talevski, over his care at a Marion County-owned nursing home based in Valparaiso, Indiana is scheduled to be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court on Nov. 8.
