SUNBURY – A caregiver has admitted putting rat poison in cigarettes she rolled for an elderly Northumberland County couple and also stealing their money.
The victims, Cheryl and Albert Mench, who were 73 and 80, respectively, when the criminal activity occurred in 2019, have since died.who had had a stroke, and his wife that June 13 in the couple’s home. Young told investigators she got a block of the poison from under an outdoor oil tank, placed it in a plastic bag, took it inside, added water, smashed it with a spoon and dumped it into the bag of tobacco.
Upon inspection she said she discovered bright green rock-shaped pieces in all of them and in the bag of tobacco Young used to roll the cigarettes.
