In this week’s car pictures we look at the highlights from our first drive in the 300mph Hennessey Venom F5 -
-based Venom GT, but not a single component is carried across. Despite its top speed focus, the F5 utilises a carbonfibre tub manufactured by UK-based Delta Motorsport for rigidity and weight. The result is a 1360kg kerb weight, somewhat shocking when power figures are taken into consideration.
At its heart is the 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged ‘Fury’ V8, capable of sending 1817bhp and a ludicrous 1198lb ft of torque to the rear wheels on high ethanol E85 fuel – do the maths and that gives it a 1317bhp/ton power-to-weight ratio. As captured by Aston Parrott in these images for issue 302, our drive took place not on NASA’s Kennedy Space Center runway, but instead on Millbrook’s technical Alpine test circuit. You’d be forgiven for assuming the Venom F5 is a one-trick pony, but with its low weight figure and lightweight carbonfibre structure, might it offer more in an environment like this?
