The return of democratic lawmakers to Austin this week ends the walkout that had kept anti-voting legislation at bay—and underscores the urgency of federal action.

When Texas Democrats left the state last month for Washington, it was not only to break quorum and prevent their Republican counterparts from sending their voter suppression legislation to’s desk.
