Cam Newton is ready to accept a backup role; but only on his terms.
“I feel there ain’t 32 guys that are better than me,” the former NFL said in a video uploaded to hisBut in an attempt to get back in the league, he announced that he is ready to accept a backup role – on his terms.
The soon-to-be 34-year-old is interested in holding the clipboard for a few players, including Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. “I’ve grown to admire the person, the athlete. He is going through a lot of turmoil. I believe that’s behind him,” Newton said of Watson. The sales pitch concluded with Newton saying, “I know I can provide services for him on the field as well as off the field.”
His complete list: Watson, Lamar Jackson , Justin Fields, Tua Tagovailoa, Malik Willis, Jalen Hurts, Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen, Sam Howell and incoming rookies C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young and Anthony Richardson.
