Running back Cam Akers is expected to make his season debut for the Los Angeles Rams in their regular-season finale on Sunday, adding another elite offensive talent to a top NFL offense.
“He was full speed, flying around,” McVay said. “He's excited. He'll be ready to go.”
“I do think you want to be smart with an incremental approach,” McVay said. “Is that 10 snaps? Is that 20? Is that 25? I think that's something that as the week progresses, we'll have a better feel for, but we definitely want to get him involved.” Akers was the Rams' leading rusher as a rookie last year with 625 yards despite not getting consistent playing time until the second half of the season. He also put up a combined 221 yards in Los Angeles' two playoff games, cementing his status as the Rams' starting running back for 2021 — until his Achilles injury forced the Rams to acquire Michel to pair with Henderson.
The Rams' final regular-season matchup will determine their playoff destination, and it comes against the opponent that has dominated McVay's teams for most of his concurrent tenure with Kyle Shanahan.
