Some thieves in California are cruising around in a fancy, expensive car, officials said Thursday.
1,298 reported thefts nationwide in 2018. That number grew to 3,389 in 2019 and jumped to 14,433 in 2020. Last year, the bureau reported reported 52,206 thefts.
Around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, four men got out of a yellow Lamborghini Urus with black rims to steal a catalytic converter, Torrance police said.The devices that reduce a combustion engine's carbon emissions contain precious metals that make them a target of thieves. Thieves can crawl under a vehicle and saw a converter off a car within a couple minutes; they often do the job in the middle of the night when people are sleeping, as the Torrance video shows the alleged thieves doing.
