During his commencement speech at Brigham Young University's graduation on Friday, Matt Easton, the political science valedictorian, admitted to the audience that he was gay.

For one BYU junior, who identifies as a lesbian and asked to remain anonymous for this story, Easton's speech was a moving moment not only because of his admission, but the audience’s reaction as well. Students at Brigham Young University are staging a sit-in on Friday to continue advocating for reforms to the Honor Code Office. Google Maps

Following his admission, members of the audience clapped and cheered for almost 20 seconds before the college senior continued.
