Ken Lerer presided over some of the biggest stories of the Trump era, but will be leaving Buzzfeed for 'personal reasons'
is stepping down as chairman of Buzzfeed amid rising tensions at the company. According to Axios, which first, Lerer will leave the digital media behemoth for “personal reasons” to focus on his New York venture capital firm, Lerer Hippeau Ventures, through which he’ll continue to invest in online publishers.
Lerer, who also co-founded The Huffington Post, oversaw more than a decade of growth at Buzzfeed, from a scrappy digital upstart into a mature, award-winning news outlet. Along with founder and CEOLerer presided over some of the biggest stories of the Trump era, including the publication of the Steele Dossier. But Buzzfeed has also faced familiar struggles in recent years amid an industry-wide downturn in digital media.
