The pink vs. blue phenomenon:
found that 50% of boy-only households had money saved for their children’s college compared with only 39% of parents of girl-only households.
Why is it that when women talk about their kids at work they’re seen as distracted, while when men do the same they’re seen as great dads?: 72% of both working moms and dads agree that women are penalized in their careers for starting families, while men are not, according to Bright Horizons’ annual Modern Family Index.
Why is it that when men are assertive they’re perceived as confident, while women who do the same are labeled as bossy? Men still make up the majority of leadership positions, butthat women leaders who emulate a masculine leadership style are viewed as less effective. The verdict is clear, we’ve still got a long way to go. So the question becomes, how do we get there? One of the best things we can do as a society is stop looking at gender as binary opposites. Conversations around what it means to be masculine or feminine often start with an either/or approach: boys are tough/girls are nice, boys are good at math/girls are good at English, boys are rational/girls are emotional, boys like blue/girls like pink, etc.
By confining men and women to limiting gender stereotypes, we could be missing out on amazing achievements.
