A major emergency response has been declared, with the mayor describing the incident as an 'apocalyptic scene'.
At least 21 people have been killed after a bus smashed onto a railway track near Venice, in Italy, this evening. Two children are understood to be among those who have tragically died after a bus full of passengers veered off the road and plummeted onto the railway line.
Witness Leonardo told LaPresse: “I heard heavy braking, I thought it was a train. Then the noise of the impact, a thud. I was alarmed and looking out I saw smoke and heard people screaming for help. "I am in close contact with the mayor Luigi Brugnaro and with the minister Matteo Piantedosi for follow the news on this tragedy".
