CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Deshaun Watson’s blockbuster trade to Cleveland didn’t inspire the NFL schedule-makers to splash the Browns all over primetime TV.The Browns 2022 schedule features only two guaranteed primetime games: Week 3 at home against the Steelers on Thursday Night Football , broadcast on Amazon Prime video, and Week 8 at home vs the AFC Champion Bengals — an ESPN Monday Night Football affair on Halloween night.
“Our players love to play under the lights, and I know our fans love to be loud under the lights,” coach Kevin Stefanski said in a release. “To get the Steelers on Thursday Night Football and then get the Bengals on Monday Night Football, I know those will be unbelievable atmospheres to watch a ballgame.”
If Watson is suspended for six games, he’d also miss matchups against the Steelers, at the Falcons, the Chargers, the Patriots, and at the Ravens. In that case, backup Jacoby Brissett would start in his place, and try to keep the Browns playoff hopes alive. “You always like having the bye week smack in the middle,” Stefanski said. “We’ll play eight games, then take a break and play nine games. I think there’s benefits to having it in the middle of the season.”* The Browns close out the season with three division games in their final five: at Cincy in Week 14, at home against Baltimore in Week 15 and at the Steelers in Week 18.
* In addition to the teams that lost out to the Browns on Watson, the Texans — who traded him away — are on the slate for a game in Houston in Week 13. In Watson’s absence, the Texans will likely start Davis Mills this season. * The Browns and Jets are tied for the 17th toughest strength of schedule. Their opponents went a combined 142-145-2 last season for a .495 win percentage. But several of those teams, including the Jets and Dolphins, upgrade their rosters significantly in the offseason.
